  Systemics

  To paraphrase Mark Twain, everybody talks about systems but few ever create good ones. This gap is important because societies world-wide desperately need interventions for various problematic situations but are not being served by the systems engineering community. This theme explores the reasons and the necessary, sufficient, and efficient remedies. Systemics is concerned with the science of systems and the praxis of creating systems, especially self-evolving systems.

  Management By Design

  First time managers deserve a readily accessible, quick reference guide on how to succeed. None exists even though hundreds of books and thousands of professors would have you believe otherwise. Management by Design applies well known principles and practices of systemics to helping new managers see and treat their organization as a system then clarify which aspects should be be performed by which participants.

  Learning

  "They who learn fastest win" seems to be a universal rule. Preventing people from learning is the root of the various forms of slavery. This theme examines proven alternatives to U.S. public education as well as ramifications of recent research in how the brain formulates knowledge, how our visceral facet validates the reasonableness of such formulations and why current initiatives to renew interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) can be accelerated with a systemics perspective--SySTEM.

Jack Ring is currently co-founder of Kennen Technologies LLC to commercialize semantic technologies, OntoPilot LLC to enable software and system integrity assessment, and Educe LLC to foster knowledge exchange and choice making.

He has been learning and applying systems thinking, feeling and doing since 1955. He has led turnarounds and assisted high tech startups, revitalized the Edelbrock product development capability, helped establish the Object Techology Practice in IBM, managed initiatives in Honeywell's commercial and industrial computer businesses and led system engineering and system test/evaluation activities in GE Aerospace.

He is a Fellow of the International Council on Systems Engineering, an Industrial Fellow of the Stevens Institute of Technology, School of Systems and Enterprises and a Senior Analyst with Cyon Research. He earned a BA, Physics and continues formal education in systems, innovation and management.
